Beginning Fall Colors 2016

Driving through Cataloochee Ranch yesterday on the way home, the clear blue skies and beginning fall colors called out for the camera.

The trees are just beginning to change spotting our landscape with color.

Our nighttime lows have been flirting with freezing and the days are shortening. Fall is such a lovely time in the mountains, perfect for a person like me who just thrives on being outdoors.

Below is one of my favorite hiking destinations from the house, Hemphill Bald. The tree line along the ridge represents the boundary between Cataloochee Ranch and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You can hike to that ridge from either side and Cataloochee Ranch offers horse rides from their stables to the ridge.

Every year here it is hit or miss if trees will be beautiful – depends on how hot and rainy I guess. Last year was wonderful, who knows this year? I hope you’ll keep sharing the progress! So beautiful there.

Just beautiful. Here in Michigan we are going through the same. I just love this time of year for many reasons, but the colors have got to be my favorite. I know if I ever had to move where there was no color change that would upset me alot. I would learn to live with it, but I would truly miss it. I am truly sorry about your loss of the Queen. She will be truly missed by us all. Have a wonderful week.

We have the changing aspens in Colorado, but the colors don’t match the eastern part of the US.
