Horses Preparing For Winter

Though we have not had too many cold days yet, we know that winter is right around the corner. The horses of Cataloochee Ranch will soon be leaving the mountain for their winter home. Before they leave, however, we get to watch the horses preparing for winter. Their coats are getting thicker, ready to protect them from the cold breezes.

With a good rain last night and additional rains expected tonight and the next night, we are hopeful that the firefighters throughout our region can get the various wildfires under control. Our thoughts are particularly with the people in Gatlinburg and surrounding towns. We may sit on the east side of “the park” (aka, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park) and they sit to its west, but it still feels like we are neighbors. We always worry about neighbors when they have trouble.

I love seeing and hearing about the big dogs. We have a horse stable not too far from us and our German Shepherd Bruce love to see the big dogs. One time Bruce was hanging out the wind barking at them and one came right up to the fence to say hi. It was great. Love the pictures. Thank you for sharing.
