Photographing Blue Ridge Parkway Rainy Days

Blue Ridge Parkway rainy days drives many tourists off of the scenic road, but the weather makes a perfect time for a photographer. Bright sunlight is quite unflattering for photographs, so the cloud cover provides a much more conducive light.

More importantly, the clouds and fog provide a dramatic background to the already gorgeous mountains. The rain glistens off of the empty roadway. The spring colors pop against the gloomy weather.

True that I had to wait out a couple of rain squalls, but the Jeep kept me dry while I waited on breaks in the weather.

Oh, and how many sibes “helped” find the great photo opportunities?

Much to their horror, they don’t always travel on a photography day, particularly when I am searching for wildlife to photograph.
