Wild turkey flock sauntering down our road

Obstacles abound on the simple drive to our house. In this case, a wild turkey flock was blocking our path, so I took photos.

Wild turkey flock sauntering down our road

A female turkey lays a dozen or more eggs in the spring, so a large flock like this is not uncommon (16 poults based on my best counting efforts). The adults are fiercely protective of the youngsters, keeping their predators (bobcats, coyote, etc.) in the woods mostly at bay. Notice the adults both leading the way and, in the foreground, an adult providing rear security.

By the way, a group of wild turkeys is called a flock while a group of domestic turkeys is called a rafter.
