April Fools’ Pranks

With April 1 fast approaching, I asked if you enjoyed the pranks played on April Fools’ Day. The results show how carefully you should tread if you’re planning some hijinks yourself.

Many of you shared pranks you’ve been involved in or heard about over the years. Here are some of the ones that made me smile.
There were many April Fool’s days that we were at my paternal grandparent’s home (probably because it was around Easter some years). My grandmother was always an early riser so when we would wake up and come down for breakfast, we would always find the chairs tied to the table’s center pedestal. She did it multiple years and always caught us off guard even though it was her signature April Fool’s Day joke. I have such fond memories of that grandmother and this is just one of them.
Didn’t witness it, but my mom (now 86) told me in junior high she once coated squares of soap with chocolate and gave to a boy that had been bullying her. I was stunned my straight and narrow mom would have done such a thing!! Hahaha!
One April Fools Day I was teaching a math unit to my third graders about predictions and we had played a dice game before. I said I would take the numbers 7 and 11 but they could choose any other number as the most common one to be rolled. I used trick dice ( one with only 5 dots and the other with 2 or 6 dots). The only numbers to be rolled were 7 and 11. Teacher wins always. It took the class a bit of time to figure it out. April Fools
One year I had flown out to Colorado to visit a friend. I left my brand-new car with my parents. It was one of those vacations where you don’t keep up with what day it was, and I called my parents to tell them about the snow in Colorado. My dad had answered the phone, and he said that there was a little bit of ice here in Tennessee also and he had some bad news for me. He had decided to take my car out to see how it handled slick roads and had a little bit of an accident. I tried to be nice and made sure he was okay but inside I was wondering how bad my car was. Then he asked if I realized what day it was and said “Happy April Fools’! My first words were “You mean my car is okay?”
I’ve teased my kids that it snowed, one April 1st, when they were young and in school. As we live near Atlanta, GA, they didn’t believe me, yet the lure of snow drew them to the windows, to verify!
Telling my young son we were late for school. He got up and rushed to get ready saying the whole time “but I thought we were off today.” They were and he was not happy when he found out I was pranking him.
Final Four was happening in Charlotte. My son and daughter were in elementary school. They got halfway to the bus stop when my husband called them back. April Fools! He told them to get in the truck and took them to breakfast and the game in Charlotte. They were so surprised
