Fran owns a vacation trailer park on the coast of England, but it’s devoid of tourists in the offseason. She spends her days preparing the trailers for the summer season and birdwatching on the coast. It’s easier than dealing with her family troubles.
Her husband is distant. Her son troubled. Her sister has fallen on hard times and is living rent free in one of the trailers with her boyfriend and daughter.
In a nearby field, a group of Romany people settle in with their own trailers. Their tale is told via Tad, one of the community elders who observes the connections between his people and Fran’s family.
Also new to the community is a teacher, colorful and a little eccentric. Rumors fly about her past and how she spends her nights, creating conflict within the community.
The teacher and Fran’s brother-in-law disappear on the same day. The police want to know where they went. Fran fears for the truth.
This slow-moving story builds like the birds constructing their nests, strand by strand.
