Favorite Part of Autumn

Autumn is just around the corner, one of my favorite seasons of the year. Deciding my most revered part, though, is challenging, so I asked what you like best.

(And, yes, my Southern Hemisphere fans, I know you’re moving from winter to summer, so I invited you to play along and add your own thoughts to the survey.)

That’s about as much agreement as I ever expect in a survey, so cooler weather wins the prize. Considering how happy I am this week not to see a temperature above 80°, I agree.

So with so much agreement, let’s move straight to the always amusing comments:

Cooler Weather

After Summer 2024, most people should give this answer! I used to love summer but no longer!

After so much heat and humidity this summer…. bring on the cold, please.

After the usual blazing hot summer with high humidity thanks to the monsoons, cooler weather in the Autumn is a welcome relief. Unfortunately, Autumn doesn’t arrive until very late October at best and usually sometime in November. Only three more months of summer. How fun.

Love dressing in layers!

Colorful Leaves

I love seeing the yellow and red leaves and then the sound of the leaves when you walk through them.

Pumpkin Spice

I just wish all the various companies that make pumpkin spice flavored things would make them available year round! That would be so much easier and less of a “big deal” for Fall and Winter. Who says you shouldn’t enjoy pumpkin spice in the Summer? I make my own pumpkin spice pancakes year round!!

It’s tough to choose

Autumn is my favorite time of year! Not just because of the cooler temps, but the beauty of being outside to enjoy the fall colors and seemingly more relaxed atmosphere.

All of the above. There is nothing like donning a comfy sweatshirt for a walk in the cool, crisp air. We stop by the local high school to enjoy marching band practice on the football field. It’s a semi-private concert framed by the colorful farewell of the surrounding trees. This is why I love autumn.

Even though I chose cooler weather, the beautiful autumn colors here in KY (and NC) are a really close second.

Wonderful sleeping weather . . . the air is crisper. Can pull out sweaters but not the “nanook of the north” clothing. Colorful leaves . . . all of it!

I love everything about Autumn, it is my favorite season, and it was hard to decide to pick cooler weather. I love leaves changing colors, Halloween coming, the cinnamon smells from baking, apples, pomegranates, pumpkins & even the pumpkin spice items. Where I grew up there was more of a change during the seasons & where I live now not so much, so I head to the mountains to get my fill of Autumn.

Some other thoughts

I’ve always loved a good solstice, a changing of the seasons, as it were. It’s a time of reflection (remembering well-loved Sibes in our past, for example). And it’s lovely to be in a region where we have four seasons, though in the south, the warm/hot season lasts longer than I prefer.

The snakes hibernate again, hate them

I think Autumn is the best season. Not too warm, less rain where I live and still enough daylight for longer walks.

I love having the still-summer-warm ground under my feet & the autumn sun on my face – while body-wrapped up in a cozy shawl with my sandaled feet sneaking out one last time before winter’s chill sends them into boots!

Fall is football season! That’s my favorite thing about fall.

Frankly, I do not enjoy fall. I am a summer person for sure and fall just reminds me that it is over, and worse is coming.
