Best Food to Grill

During summer, thoughts turn to backyard grilling and tasty meals. What menu item comes to your mind when firing up the grill?

So many great comments to read and enjoy this month. Here are some of the best grouped by topic:

Steaks

Nothing beats a good rib eye on the grill. Or a t-bone. Or a New York Strip, Or a filet mignon, sirloin, porterhouse, prime rib… shoot, just about anything that comes from a cow.

Chicken

Make sure the chicken is cooked through.

So Many Choices

Hamburgers & hot dogs & chicken breasts are usually prepared at the same time by hubby, usually preceded by baked potatoes, and followed by corn on the cob that was soaked, still covered in its silks & leaves. A few Thanksgivings, he was kind enough to roast the turkey in the grill. I still haven’t managed to get him to grill salmon, but kabobs with meat and vegetables are wonderful grilled as are avocado halves. My brother has fixed asparagus, pineapple, and other more adventurous items on the grill, even managed a rotating roasting spit for Cornish hens.

Bacon Explosion. A pinwheel roll of sausage stuffed with cooked bacon, dusted inside and out with barbecue rub, wrapped in a woven mat of bacon strips, slathered with barbecue sauce as it roasts/smokes on the grill for 2-3 hours. Obnoxious? Yes. Delicious? Absolutely. Coronary-inducing? I have no doubt. But a slice of that on a hamburger bun is a little piece of porcine heaven on earth.

Steaks are always best when cooked on a grill… I also like Kielbasa or Bratwurst wrapped in a flour tortilla..

Hamburgers are first, but I love just about anything from the grill, including vegetables.

Fish, grilled veggies, maybe a burger

The Debate Within

Hard not to say Hot DOGS!!! (Answered hamburgers)

Hot dogs are a close 2nd. (Answered steaks)

We make steaks on the grill every Sunday but when I think of grilling, I just think of hamburgers.

A nice ribeye please, but if someone is patiently grilling chicken so that it comes out with that nice crispy bbq sauced skin…

Things I Didn’t Think Of

Ribs.

Sausages.

Kebabs.

I love to make pizza on the grill… like a “wood oven” pizza! (Several votes for pizza)

Outdoor grill needs little lamb chops. Oh, and a bomb shape made of tinfoil with the makings of ratatouille inside.

The Vegans / Vegetarians

What about some vegetarian or vegan food?

Do not eat any kind of meat. Has to be veggies such as mushrooms!

Grilled portobello mushrooms. They’re almost like a steak.

Zucchini, eggplant or peppers

I do love a good hamburger and/or hot dog grilled BUT I’m trying to eat less meat. And what I really love is grilled portobellos and other vegetables… especially on someone else’s grill (so they can cook it and I can just consume).

What? No Grill?

I don’t even own a grill. I can boil a wonderful pot of water on my Coleman stove when camping though!!!

Just pulling the survey results together made me really hungry, so pardon while I head out to the grill to prepare some dinner. And don’t forget to take this month’s survey here and be part of the fun.

I’ll take any of the meats listed, they all taste good from the grill but I think a nice steak is the winner 😄

Reader Surveys

Each month, I survey readers on a random topic. I might ask about books, reading, and authors, as this is my primary focus. Some months, the survey focuses on the mountain region that has been my home. Other months, the query will be something completely random. The debate over mayonnaise might be the most contested ever.

In time for the monthly newsletter, I summarize and share the overall results and some of the highlights I learned. To protect privacy, I don't attempt connect the data in anyway to individuals and then delete the responses.

The following is the result of one of those surveys. And if you want to participate in this month's survey, just click the button.
